MLA Format
The MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers (a/k/a MLA style guide) is published by the Modern Language Association. It is currently in the 7th Edition. This is the preferred formatting style for papers in the fields of English composition, arts and humanities.
MLA format requires that you cite each source with a parenthetical tag like this (DeMack) within the text of your essay. This tag would include the author's name or, if there is no author, the first few words of the title. It would also include the page number where the information is located. The tag used for a citation would match the full citation on your alphabetical Works Cited list. The Works Cited list is the last page of your document, but does not count in your overall document length.
